First post-jam update!
Our ambition for the game jam was a bit more than what we could accomplish in a week. Though the gameplay worked, it was laggy and would occasionally result in game breaking bugs on slower PCs. And while our environment was functional, it was just a plain blockmesh without decorations. This was problematic for a game in which the primary mechanic is lining up photos with the environment, making the game unnecessarily difficult. At least our character models and smoke visual effect were looking fire!
After the jam we have been working on making the game more than just a crude prototype. We added actual models for the buildings and fully furnished them, as well as building a forest instead of just a green wall. We also modified the camera settings for both the present and the past scenes and added some shaders. The pictures were all redone to fit the new environment and to make lining up the pictures clearer. Despite the new visual elements, the performance is also drastically improved by refactoring how the pictures work behind the scenes. We also added some small features to the gameplay, such as a tutorial and a new 'puzzle'.
The game file is still quite large and might not run very smoothly on older computers, but at least it looks good and is technically playable! In the near future, in addition to continuing to improve the visuals and performance, we are aiming to rework the story and introduce several new mechanics. See you "soon".
